<title>Modular recorder concept gets down with homegrown sounds</title>

Now here&#x27;s an instrument you wouldn&#x27;t have minded practicing as a tot. Alle Meine Kl&#x26;auml;nge&#x27;s AMK is a modular recorder (you know, those plastic flute wannabes) that pack an array of individual blocks which can hold any sound you like. Simply transfer homegrown beats / notes / tunes / etc. over to each block, connect &#x27;em up and you&#x27;ve got yourself a instrument of cacophonic delight. &#x27;Tis a shame it&#x27;s still a concept -- Fisher-Price, you seeing this?&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Via &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/07/03/modular-sound-flute.html&#x22;&#x3E;BoingBoing&#x3C;/a&#x3E;]&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.pknts.com/index.php?work&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/04/modular-recorder-concept-gets-down-with-homegrown-sounds/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245272/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/04/modular-recorder-concept-gets-down-with-homegrown-sounds/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

Building &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2005/08/22/the-30-foot-tall-fire-breathing-robot/&#x22;&#x3E;a big robot&#x3C;/a&#x3E; is &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/22/man-builds-giant-robot-in-backyard/&#x22;&#x3E;nothing&#x3C;/a&#x3E; to congratulate yourself on, but doing it in this manner is certainly worthy of a little self-indulgence. The creature you see standing before you is a 22-foot tall Styrobot constructed entirely from spare polystyrene packing materials, and no, each piece didn&#x27;t just show up that way. Michael Salter managed to whittle away on this beast until its completion, and now we&#x27;re hearing that it&#x27;ll be going on a short demonstration tour before being &#x22;decommissioned.&#x22; We say throw a brain in there and see what happens when you cut it loose.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Via &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://techdigest.tv/2008/07/giant_polystyre.html&#x22;&#x3E;TechDigest&#x3C;/a&#x3E;]&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://michaelasalter.com/artwork/299343.html&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/22-foot-tall-robot-crafted-entirely-from-excess-styrofoam/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245284/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/22-foot-tall-robot-crafted-entirely-from-excess-styrofoam/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

A large screen, big hard drive, support for lots of codecs, PVR functionality, TV output, etc. I&#x27;d also like Bluetooth and / or WiFi if possible. I don&#x27;t mind units that are somewhat bulky, but I want one with a great user interface and decent battery life. <title>Matias Duarte, designer behind Sidekick and Helio, now developing Palm&#x27;s next-gen UI</title>

Although no announcement was made, we hear he and his gang of designers jumped ship (well before &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/27/virgin-mobile-to-buy-helio-for-39-million-in-equity/&#x22;&#x3E;Helio completely flooded&#x3C;/a&#x3E;) to take on the monumental task of designing the UI for &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/14/first-palm-os-ii-devices-to-hit-early-2009-is-it-already-too-la/&#x22;&#x3E;Palm&#x27;s next-gen mobile OS&#x3C;/a&#x3E; (aka &#x22;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/28/ed-colligan-speaks-about-palm-os-2-0/&#x22;&#x3E;Palm OS 2.0 or II&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x22;). His resume online now lists him as &#x22;Senior Director, Human Interface and User Experience&#x22; doing &#x22;Something new...&#x22; since September 2007; we got in touch with Palm, who confirmed that he&#x27;s now under the company&#x27;s employ.&#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E; Of course, expectations should be pretty high -- Palm&#x27;s only been promising this supposedly game-changing OS since around 2004, and the company&#x27;s reputation and pedigree is (or at least it used to be) in groundbreaking mobile UI design. But this news also kind of makes us wonder: if they didn&#x27;t have a killer UI and user experience team already in place and long-since working their asses off by late 2007, exactly how far along are they on this thing, anyway?&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/matias-duarte-designer-behind-sidekick-and-helio-now-developin/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245311/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/matias-duarte-designer-behind-sidekick-and-helio-now-developin/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>Hitachi and Seiyu develop light bulb with replaceable arc tube</title>
<link>http://feeds.engadget.com/~r/weblogsinc/engadget/~3/326195701/</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Filed under: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/category/household/&#x22; rel=&#x22;tag&#x22;&#x3E;Household&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div align=&#x22;center&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20080703/154292/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;4&#x22; hspace=&#x22;4&#x22; border=&#x22;1&#x22; src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/7-3-08-hitachi-and-seiyu-bulb.jpg&#x22;  alt=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
While the rest of the world goes off to win the hearts of environmentalists (and laypeople, too) with &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/22/earthled-evolux-r-led-light-bulb-lets-you-choose-your-lumens/&#x22;&#x3E;LED&#x3C;/a&#x3E; &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/08/150-led-bulb-uses-9w-costs-65/&#x22;&#x3E;light bulbs&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, Hitachi Lighting and Seiyu are taking the road (way) less traveled. Reportedly, the duo has collaborated in order to pop out a &#x22;bulb-shaped fluorescent lamp that can be separated into a lighting circuit unit and an arc tube unit.&#x22; What this means is that the lighting circuit can be used repeatedly (up to 30,000 hours) while the arc tube simply gets replaced every 10,000 hours. The pair is hoping that the bulbs will take the place of traditional 60-watt incandescents, and considering that these only draw around 13-watts each, it&#x27;s fairly easy to see how Mother Earth would just love you for making the switch. As for pricing, we&#x27;re hearing that these will sell for around &#x26;yen;1,500 ($14) apiece when they launch this October in Japan, so don&#x27;t plan on recouping your investment in energy savings right away or anything.&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20080703/154292/&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/hitachi-and-seiyu-develop-light-bulb-with-replaceable-arc-tube/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245306/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/hitachi-and-seiyu-develop-light-bulb-with-replaceable-arc-tube/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>Motorola&#x27;s worldly Q9: &#x22;Napoleon&#x22; breaks cover for Verizon</title>
<link>http://feeds.engadget.com/~r/weblogsinc/engadget/~3/326167896/</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Filed under: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/&#x22; rel=&#x22;tag&#x22;&#x3E;Cellphones&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/&#x22; rel=&#x22;tag&#x22;&#x3E;Handhelds&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div align=&#x22;center&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/07/03/motorola-napolean-q9-verizons-world-phone/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img hspace=&#x22;4&#x22; border=&#x22;1&#x22; vspace=&#x22;4&#x22; src=&#x22;http://www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/07/motorola-napoleon-bgr.jpg&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
It looks like Motorola and Verizon are getting ready to take a third crack at the Q9 form factor, following up the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Q9m/&#x22;&#x3E;Q9m&#x3C;/a&#x3E; and &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Q9c/&#x22;&#x3E;Q9c&#x3C;/a&#x3E; -- and this time around, there&#x27;s a little something extra in store. On top of the EV-DO Rev. A radio, the so-called &#x22;Napoleon&#x22; (codename, of course) features GSM, because -- surprise, surprise -- businesspeople who use Windows Mobile devices tend to do just a bit of traveling. It looks like Moto has taken this opportunity to give the Q9 meme a little nip-tuck job, too, with a rounded body and a tastefully-applied ring of chrome around the top edge. They&#x27;ve even tossed in a fingerprint scanner for good measure, a tip o&#x27; the hat to the suits who&#x27;ll undoubtedly populate the upper 90 percent of this sucker&#x27;s client base. No word on a release date or price, but can we cautiously submit a thumbs-up for the design direction here?&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/07/03/motorola-napolean-q9-verizons-world-phone/&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/motorolas-worldly-q9-napoleon-breaks-cover-for-verizon/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245331/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/motorolas-worldly-q9-napoleon-breaks-cover-for-verizon/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>Is the BlackBerry KickStart getting a $50 price tag on T-Mobile?</title>

&#x3C;div align=&#x22;left&#x22;&#x3E;It only launched a few weeks ago, but it looks like NVIDA could already be set to cut the price of its top-end &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/tag/gtx280&#x22;&#x3E;GeForce GTX 280&#x3C;/a&#x3E; graphics card -- a move that would be prompted, as you might have guessed, by AMD&#x27;s cheaper but powerful &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/amd-radeon-hd-4870-x2-images-leaked-rumored-for-august-release/&#x22;&#x3E;Radeon HD 4800 series&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. According to HotHardware, that word comes from &#x22;multiple NVIDIA board partners,&#x22; who say that the card could be dropping to as low as $499 (the same as AMD&#x27;s competing card). One board partner reportedly added that the price &#x22;may be a little higher, or potentially even a little lower.&#x22; Obviously, all of that is still up in the air until we hear from NVIDIA itself but, as HotHardware points out, it could certainly pay off to hold out a couple of weeks if you&#x27;ve been considering taking the plunge on one of these.&#x3C;/div&#x3E;

<title>Gateway&#x27;s 17-inch P-6831FX gaming laptop gets reviewed</title>
<link>http://feeds.engadget.com/~r/weblogsinc/engadget/~3/326099499/</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Filed under: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/&#x22; rel=&#x22;tag&#x22;&#x3E;Laptops&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div align=&#x22;center&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/Gateway_P6831FX_Gaming_Notebook/?page=2&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;4&#x22; hspace=&#x22;4&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/7-3-08-gateway_p8631fx_front.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
Given that Gateway just pushed out a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/30/gateway-updates-bevy-of-laptops-desktops-in-one-fell-swoop/&#x22;&#x3E;round of updates&#x3C;/a&#x3E; including the relatively ginormous P Series, we reckon it was only logical to expect a review shortly. To be frank, the P-6831FX critiqued over at &#x3C;em&#x3E;HotHardware&#x3C;/em&#x3E; is far from being the most potent machine with a 17-inch panel, but unlike many of its luxurious &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/19/alienware-m17x-laptop-touching-down-nationwide/&#x22;&#x3E;competitors&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, this one is actually affordable. So, how much gaming joy can $1,349.99 bring you? Quite a bit when the 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS and 3GB of RAM are included. Reviewers found gaming performance to be downright remarkable, though the 1.67GHz CPU did hamper it a bit in other areas. It should be noted that the unit now arrives with a slightly faster CPU among other minor extras, so if it was good then, we&#x27;re guessing it&#x27;s a runaway winner now.&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/Gateway_P6831FX_Gaming_Notebook/?page=2&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/gateways-17-inch-p-6831fx-gaming-laptop-gets-reviewed/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245210/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/gateways-17-inch-p-6831fx-gaming-laptop-gets-reviewed/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

&#x3C;div align=&#x22;left&#x22;&#x3E;HP has already busted out a bundle of Puma-based &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/25/hps-puma-based-pavilion-dv5z-laptops-now-on-sale/&#x22;&#x3E;laptops&#x3C;/a&#x3E; and &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/11/hp-pavilion-tx2500z-puma-based-tablet-pc-available-now/&#x22;&#x3E;tablets&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, but it looks like it&#x27;s not done with AMD&#x27;s latest platform just yet, with it now rolling out a pair of new Compaq laptops aimed at business users. Those include the 15.4-inch Compaq 6735b and the 14.1-inch 6535b, each of which will come loaded with your choice of AMD Turion X2, X2 Ultra, or Athlon X2 processors, along with ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics, support for up to 8GB of RAM (though only 2GB and 3GB options are configurable from HP), a max 160GB hard drive, and an optional second hard drive in place of the DVD burner if you so choose. You can also expect a WXGA resolution on each, with WSXGA+ also availabe on the 15.4-inch model and WXGA+ an option on the 14.1-inch (both have both BrightView and anti-glare options, as well). From the looks of it, you can get your hands on either one right now, with the base configuration for each setting you back $779.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Via &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://laptoping.com/hp-compaq-6735b-6535b.html&#x22;&#x3E;Laptoping&#x3C;/a&#x3E;]&#x3C;/div&#x3E;

<title>Introducing Engadget Korean and German!</title>

Remember how when we launched &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/30/introducing-engadget-poland/&#x22;&#x3E;Engadget Poland&#x3C;/a&#x3E; a couple weeks ago we said that we were just getting started rolling out new international versions of the site? Well, today we&#x27;re announcing two exciting new Engadgets we&#x27;ve waited for years to get started: Korean and German! They&#x27;re both in beta, so to speak, so try not to mind the sawdust as we work out the kinks. Big ups to Brian, Jason, Manfred, and everyone at our international teams that made these new sites possible. Oh, and if you&#x27;re waiting for Engadget in your language of choice, don&#x27;t worry, Korean and German aren&#x27;t the last we&#x27;ll be rolling out!&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://kr.engadget.com/&#x22;&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E; - Engadget Korea&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://de.engadget.com/&#x22;&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E; - Engadget Germany&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/introducing-engadget-korean-and-german/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245220/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/introducing-engadget-korean-and-german/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

&#x3C;div align=&#x22;left&#x22;&#x3E; Pentax&#x27;s &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/tag/k200d&#x22;&#x3E;K200D&#x3C;/a&#x3E; has been &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/31/hands-on-with-the-pentax-k200d-dslr/&#x22;&#x3E;out and about&#x3C;/a&#x3E; for a little while now, but if you&#x27;re still undecided about taking the plunge on the mid-range DSLR, you may want to pay a visit to Photography Blog, which has just put the camera through its paces. On the whole, they seem to have come away pretty impressed with it, saying that it offers a &#x22;substantial number of improvements&#x22; over the previous K100D, which they say was already an excellent camera to begin with. In addition to the bump to 10-megapixels, the site seems to have been particularly impressed by the camera&#x27;s new Sv shooting mode, &#x22;greatly improved battery life,&#x22; and some new dust and water-resistant weatherproof sealing. On the downside, there&#x27;s still no Live View mode, but considering the price (around $600 street), it seems like this one is a solid bet.&#x3C;/div&#x3E;

<title>Scientists create sea-power generating &#x27;Anaconda&#x27;</title>

Scientists may have discovered a new way to combat the global energy crisis -- and they&#x27;re calling it the &#x22;Anaconda&#x22; (we&#x27;ll give you a moment to purge your mind of any J. Lo films). The system works by utilizing the power of the ocean and long, black rubber tubes (hence the name). The rubber &#x22;snakes&#x22; are laid just below the sea&#x27;s surface where they&#x27;re pounded by the ocean&#x27;s waves. That movement creates &#x22;bulge waves&#x22; inside the water-filled tubes, which are then carried up through the devices to a turbine, which in turn sends the energy it produces to shore via cables. So far scientists have only tested the system on a small scale, though they say the full-size devices could be 200 meters long and seven meters in diameter. That&#x27;s one giant, deadly snake.&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.physorg.com/news134301650.html&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/scientists-create-sea-power-generating-anaconda/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245045/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/scientists-create-sea-power-generating-anaconda/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

Ever walk through Times Square and wonder how much electricity all those flashy &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/tag/billboard&#x22;&#x3E;billboards&#x3C;/a&#x3E; are soaking up? No? Well, Ricoh has, and now they&#x27;re doing something about it. Ricoh Company Ltd. of Tokyo is erecting a 47 x 126-foot billboard at Seventh Avenue and 42nd Street that will be completely powered by the sun and wind. Fueled by 45 solar panels and four wind turbines, the billboard won&#x27;t even need a backup electric generator. On days that the sun and wind aren&#x27;t enough to power it, it will simply go dark. In the end, the billboard is said to reduce carbon dioxide usage by 18 tons a year. The billboard will go live in December, or just in time for the sun to go dark.&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20080702/sc_livescience/timessquaregetssolarpoweredbillboard&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/ricoh-erecting-47-x-126-foot-solar-and-wind-powered-billboard-in/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1245016/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/ricoh-erecting-47-x-126-foot-solar-and-wind-powered-billboard-in/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>Research institute hopes to send &#x22;brain breathalyzer&#x22; into space</title>

Described as a &#x22;brain breathalyzer,&#x22; the device promises to monitor astronauts for signs of brain injury, depression and mental fatigue, which could allow mission control to determine if they&#x27;re capable of carrying out a mission or not. That&#x27;s done with the use of an optical scanner that sends weak pulses of near-infrared light into the brain, which gets reflected back to determine the amount of oxygen in the blood. While NASA isn&#x27;t fully sold on the idea just yet, it apparently is interested enough to shell out $400,000 to further the development of the scanner, which it hopes will also eventually be able to monitor other vital signs like blood pressure and heart rate.&#x3C;/div&#x3E;

One question: why would you tell Apple?&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://meckimac.com/drupal/node/67&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/apple-accidentally-ships-mobileme-to-mac-customers/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244970/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/apple-accidentally-ships-mobileme-to-mac-customers/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>Nanowire-based memory promises leap in storage capacity</title>

Unlike other nanowire-based memory methods, their system employs a non-binary form of nanowire memory, which makes it possible to store three bit values (0, 1, and 2) instead of the usual two (0 and 1) -- crazy talk, we know. That, the researchers say, allows for a &#x22;&#x3C;span name=&#x22;intelliTxt&#x22; id=&#x22;intelliTXT&#x22;&#x3E;huge increase&#x22; in memory density, with fewer nanowires needed to store the same amount of information as a binary nanowire-based memory system, which&#x27;d also make the actual devices smaller. Of course, that&#x27;s assuming any of this stuff actually gets out of the lab, which seems to be a long ways off at best.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Thanks, Dwight]&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.physorg.com/news134214217.html&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/nanowire-based-memory-promises-leap-in-storage-capacity/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244893/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/nanowire-based-memory-promises-leap-in-storage-capacity/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>German &#x22;Future Store&#x22; lets you grocery shop with your cellphone</title>

It&#x27;s been a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2004/06/16/germanys-future-supermarket/&#x22;&#x3E;long, long time&#x3C;/a&#x3E; since we&#x27;ve heard from Germany&#x27;s &#x22;Future Store&#x22; -- the ultra-futuristic German grocery store that might have sprung directly from the Sprawl trilogy -- but they&#x27;ve got a new feature we thought you might be interested in. Shoppers in the store can now use camera-equipped cellphones (i.e., cellphones) to snap pictures of item barcodes, and then download the information at the checkout when they&#x27;re finished shopping. The system totals all of your purchases into one big, nasty barcode which you then scan and pony up cash (or cards, or fingerprints, or magical rainbow juice) for. It&#x27;s unclear how to store handles shoppers who don&#x27;t scan everything they&#x27;ve got in their cart, but if it&#x27;s anything like our favorite books, it&#x27;s not pretty.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Via &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.phonemag.com/german-supermarket-replaces-checkout-with-cellphones-073706.php&#x22;&#x3E;PHONE Magazine&#x3C;/a&#x3E;]&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7476672.stm&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/german-future-store-lets-you-grocery-shop-with-your-cellphone/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244863/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/german-future-store-lets-you-grocery-shop-with-your-cellphone/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>SSD-maker responds to nasty report, says it&#x27;ll do better next time</title>

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Filed under: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/&#x22; rel=&#x22;tag&#x22;&#x3E;Storage&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div align=&#x22;center&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-9983500-64.html?part=rss&#x26;amp;subj=news&#x26;amp;tag=2547-1_3-0-20&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;4&#x22; hspace=&#x22;4&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/super-talent-masterdrive-mx-ssd_2.jpg&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
If you were shaken to your very core at the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/01/ssds-save-battery-power-right-wrong/&#x22;&#x3E;recent report&#x3C;/a&#x3E; that SSDs may not be as power-friendly as you&#x27;d been led to believe, drive-maker STEC wants to talk you down from the ledge. According to the company&#x27;s Patrick Wilkison, the Tom&#x27;s Hardware article which benchmarked (and gave failing grades) to power-consumption of the non-mechanical drives was flawed because, &#x22;They are using legacy drives, none of which will be used by any major PC OEM.&#x22; According to Patrick (whose job, you might note, is to sell SSDs), new versions of the drives will / do have intelligent power management which circumvents the issues that report shed light on. Wilison goes on to say that, &#x22;Drives will need to have very intelligent power management systems. Some of these SSDs will have them, and those (that) do not have such power intelligence will not be used (by PC makers).&#x22; So it&#x27;s sort of like saying a car you buy in the future will get better gas mileage than the one you own now, provided the automaker cares about fuel efficiency. Small solace, we&#x27;d say.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Update:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; We&#x27;ve gotten a statement from Micron concerning the report -- you can check it out after the break.&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/ssd-maker-responds-to-nasty-report-says-itll-do-better-next-ti/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22;&#x3E;Continue reading &#x3C;em&#x3E;SSD-maker responds to nasty report, says it&#x27;ll do better next time&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-9983500-64.html?part=rss&#x26;amp;subj=news&#x26;amp;tag=2547-1_3-0-20&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/ssd-maker-responds-to-nasty-report-says-itll-do-better-next-ti/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244776/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/ssd-maker-responds-to-nasty-report-says-itll-do-better-next-ti/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

According to a report in the Economic Times, Sony will be introducing a slimmer (well, &#x22;slimer&#x22; if you want the direct quote), sleeker, and &#x22;more suave&#x22; version of the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/tag/PS2/&#x22;&#x3E;PS2&#x3C;/a&#x3E; in Indian and European markets come Fall. If you believe what you read, the new system will include a built-in power supply, will make its debut by Diwali (which falls on October 28th), and will keep the current sticker price of Rs 6,990 (or about $162). It says the drive should be available by 2010 in a 3.5-inch format and will use perpendicular CPP-GMR tech to achieve some serious density. Just to show off, Hitachi&#x27;s Yoshiro Shiroishi pointed out that the human brain has been estimated at (only?) around 10TB. So there we have it -- we&#x27;re halfway to intellectual obsolescence. <title>Tata&#x27;s Nano to begin production this Fall, eco-friendly version on the way?</title>

Your dreams of riding in the ultimate cheapo deathbox have just gotten a little bit more real. According to a report, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/tag/Tata/&#x22;&#x3E;Tata&#x3C;/a&#x3E; will begin production of its diminutive, ultra-affordable Nano car this Fall. The $2500 vehicle is generally known as the cheapest car in the world, though worries over inflation suggest that its price-point may move above the intended figure. In other news, sources say that Tata plans a &#x22;greener&#x22; version of the vehicle in addition to the original model, which -- if it happens -- will likely be a real knockout punch for penny-pinchers with an Earth-hugging mindset. Still, you&#x27;ll probably have to ship it from India, which would burn a lot of fossil fuels, which would be bad for the environment... oh just buy an old Yugo.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Via &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/07/03/tata-nano-production-to-start-this-fall-greener-variants-coming/&#x22;&#x3E;Autoblog Green&#x3C;/a&#x3E;]&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.fashionfunky.com/2008/07/tata_nano_manufacturing_to_beg.php&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/tatas-nano-to-begin-production-this-fall-eco-friendly-version/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244749/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/tatas-nano-to-begin-production-this-fall-eco-friendly-version/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

Apparently, law enforcement is seriously stepping into the 21st century. According to a report, police dep artments in Boston, Cincinnati and over 100 other communities have begun using a text message tip-line in the hopes that cellphone-savvy youngsters will alert them if they see a crime being committed, or know of one ahead of time. &#x22;It&#x27;s obvious that the future of communication is texting,&#x22; said Boston Police Crime Stoppers commander (and techno-visionary) Michael Charbonnier, adding that the department&#x27;s system as yielded, &#x22;Some great drug information, specific times, dates, names of suspects, locations, pickup times, &#x3C;span id=&#x22;lw_1215023754_3&#x22; class=&#x22;yshortcuts&#x22; style=&#x22;background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; cursor: pointer; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;&#x22;&#x3E;[and] license plate numbers&#x3C;/span&#x3E;.&#x22; The only roadblock? <title>Voice search comes to Google Maps for BlackBerry devices</title>

If you were concerned that you didn&#x27;t look crazy enough screaming into your phone at business associates, family members, and the guy who does your landscaping, Google has added a feature to Maps for RIM devices which should confirm that yes: you&#x27;re a total maniac. Available right now for a handful of BlackBerry phones (8110, 8120, US version of the 8130) you can grab Google Maps with voice search, which enables you to find what you&#x27;re looking for by pressing the left-side button and speaking the name of a business (or location, we assume). Sure it sounds convenient, but think twice before searching for hookers or cocaine out loud -- stock brokers, you have been warned.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Via &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.geardiary.com/2008/07/02/google-maps-with-voice-search-available-for-blackberry-pearl-8110-8120-8130/&#x22;&#x3E;Gear Diary&#x3C;/a&#x3E;]&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.google.com/mobile/blackberry/maps/voicesearch.html&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/voice-search-comes-to-google-maps-for-blackberry-devices/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244663/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/voice-search-comes-to-google-maps-for-blackberry-devices/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

We weren&#x27;t exactly hot on MSI&#x27;s &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/09/msi-titan-700-mini-pc-gets-announced/&#x22;&#x3E;Titan 700 mini-PC&#x3C;/a&#x3E; when it first hit back in May, and now that TrustedReviews has had a chance to look one over, it looks like our initial impression wasn&#x27;t that far off the mark. Although the diminutive case was stylish in an industrial way, the fit and finish left something to be desired, and the DVD door is apparently rather convoluted. The machine itself, powered by a ULV 2GHz VIA C7M, is &#x22;annoyingly audible&#x22; when running, and you&#x27;re not getting a ton of horsepower in return -- a 720p AVI file barely played, and a .mov at the same res brought Windows Media Player to its knees. Like we said last time, unless space is at a premium, you&#x27;re probably better off investing $500 into a real PC -- even if that means you have to forgo the Darth Vader looks.&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.trustedreviews.com/pcs/review/2008/07/03/MSI-Titan-700-Micro-PC/p1&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/msi-titan-700-mini-pc-gets-reviewed/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244366/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/msi-titan-700-mini-pc-gets-reviewed/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>Ovei home theater pod: not for claustrophobic, poor people</title>

As with quite a few things unveiled at CEDIA Expos, the Ovei is also aimed squarely at folks with wallets so fat they can hardly contain themselves. This home cinema pod made its most recent debut at the CEDIA UK show, where the creators explained that users could slip into the air-conditioned capsule and control their home theater and / or gaming experience via the built-in touchscreen. We are told that it was designed by Lee McCormack and engineered by McLaren Applied Technologies, but aside from that, pretty much everything else remains a mystery. The Ovei can be ordered up now for around &#x26;pound;50,000 (that&#x27;s 100,000 of those depreciating greenbacks), but if you get &#x27;em to toss in some foot pedals and a steering wheel (or whatever else you dream up), count on that figure heading north in a hurry.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Via &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/blog/?em3106=197014_-1__0_~0_-1_7_2008_0_0&#x26;amp;em3161=&#x26;amp;em3281=&#x22;&#x3E;KanYeWest Blog&#x3C;/a&#x3E;]&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.techradar.com/news/home-cinema/ovei-home-cinema-pod-unveiled-406537&#x22;&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E; - Ovei pod details&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/15646/16670/ovei-home-entertainment-media-pod.phtml&#x22;&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E; - Ovei pod live shots, video&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/ovei-home-theater-pod-not-for-claustrophobics-poor-people/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244370/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/ovei-home-theater-pod-not-for-claustrophobics-poor-people/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>Video: Choe U Ram&#x27;s creepy robotic art</title>

Korean artist, Choe U Ram, possesses something most artists don&#x27;t: a deep understanding of robotics. With it, he creates massive, precision engineered sculptures with an eerie organic feel. While his show titled, Anima Machines (Anima is Latin for life or soul) just wrapped up at the SCAI The Bathhouse gallery in Japan, we&#x27;ve managed to collect a few images and video of the exhibition as disturbingly beautiful and tragic as the uprising itself. &#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;div class=&#x22;postgallery&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Gallery: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/photos/when-robots-and-art-mix/&#x22;&#x3E;When robots and art mix&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/photos/when-robots-and-art-mix/898813/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/choe-u-ram-pic-1_thumbnail.jpg&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/photos/when-robots-and-art-mix/898812/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/choe-u-ram-pic-3_thumbnail.jpg&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/photos/when-robots-and-art-mix/898814/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/choe-u-ram-pic-4_thumbnail.jpg&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/photos/when-robots-and-art-mix/898815/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/choe-u-rampicture-2_thumbnail.jpg&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/photos/when-robots-and-art-mix/898816/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/choe-u-ramscai_ph04_thumbnail.jpg&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;[Via &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&#x26;amp;u=http://robot.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/news/2008/07/03/1157.html&#x26;amp;usg=ALkJrhh4pmcexu2cyNUSPZBPGMMoDaWcAA&#x22;&#x3E;Impress&#x3C;/a&#x3E;]&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/video-choe-u-rams-robotic-art/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22;&#x3E;Continue reading &#x3C;em&#x3E;Video: Choe U Ram&#x27;s creepy robotic art&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=http://www.scaithebathhouse.com/en/exhibition/data/080527choe_u_ram/&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/video-choe-u-rams-robotic-art/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244541/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/video-choe-u-rams-robotic-art/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

<title>AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2 images leaked, rumored for August release</title>
<link>http://feeds.engadget.com/~r/weblogsinc/engadget/~3/325580094/</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Filed under: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/&#x22; rel=&#x22;tag&#x22;&#x3E;Gaming&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div align=&#x22;center&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;4&#x22; hspace=&#x22;4&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; src=&#x22;http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/amd-ati-radeon-hd-4870-x2-rumored-pics.jpg&#x22;  alt=&#x22;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
Is this the Radeon card destined to leapfrog NVIDIA&#x27;s performance leading GTX 200 series? We&#x27;ll know in August (or soon thereafter), that&#x27;s the rumored release date for AMD&#x27;s Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics card. As the X2 name implies, the card packs a pair of &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/tag/rv770&#x22;&#x3E;RV770&#x3C;/a&#x3E;-based GPUs and should be ready to sample with 2GB (!) of that &#x22;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/03/samsung-announces-world-fastest-memory-gddr5/&#x22;&#x3E;world&#x27;s fastest&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x22; &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/tag/GDDR5&#x22;&#x3E;GDDR5&#x3C;/a&#x3E; memory by the end of this month. It&#x27;s worth noting that the leaked images show a total of 1GB of GDDR5 (16 Qimonda GDDR5 chips) on that black PCB. AMD will then make the 4870 X2 (RV770XT) cards available to its partners in mid-August, hitting retail soon after for an estimated $499 according to sources over at &#x3C;em&#x3E;DigiTimes&#x3C;/em&#x3E;. &#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.digit-life.com/news.html/68/73&#x22;&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E; -- Leaked images &#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20080702PD213.html&#x22;&#x3E;Read&#x3C;/a&#x3E; -- August launch&#x3C;h6 style=&#x22;clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/h6&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/amd-radeon-hd-4870-x2-images-leaked-rumored-for-august-release/&#x22; rel=&#x22;bookmark&#x22; title=&#x22;Permanent link to this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Permalink&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/forward/1244500/&#x22; title=&#x22;Send this entry to a friend via email&#x22;&#x3E;Email this&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;|&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/amd-radeon-hd-4870-x2-images-leaked-rumored-for-august-release/#comments&#x22; title=&#x22;View reader comments on this entry&#x22;&#x3E;Comments&#x3C;/a&#x3E;
